So she needs to continuously prove to herself that her beliefs are right, that we all get what we deserve. But Jasper can never escape her birthplace and the thought that she is somehow wrong. And it is her strength that has made her a respected gem across space ever since. They help Jasper make sense of her own past. This is how Jasper, the ultimate warrior, can forgive herself for her ultimate failure, letting Pink die.Īnd this is why Jasper so rigidly adheres to Homeworld's beliefs. I am strong, I am the one good thing that survived this miserable planet and I will never let it corrupt me. If it was her fault all along for being weak, if it was the off-colors' fault for being imperfect, then it wasn't mine. So Jasper says that weakness and imperfection are the worst things in the world. She also employed off-color gems, like the Betas. We know now that Pink Diamond was off-colored herself, younger, smaller, and weaker than the other Diamonds. How does Jasper move forward and find self-worth after the Gem War? I believe that Jasper came to think that Pink deserved her fate in some way, that her weakness allowed her to be shattered. But as a whole, they are a disgrace, especially once Pink Diamond is shattered. Moving Forward: Jasper emerged the perfect Quartz among a group of rushed off-colors. It is Jasper's strength, her perfection, that justifies her victories. Corrupted gems and off-colors deserve to suffer because they are weak and weakness embarrasses Homeworld. Jasper says that "we all only get what we deserve". And these are facts that all of Gemkind knows.īeliefs: Jasper herself gives us some insight into her psyche in "Earthlings". Even though Jasper is the perfect gem, her origins are the exact opposite. From episodes like "Off-Colors", we know how Homeworld views imperfection. This is reinforced at the Human Zoo, where all of the Prime Amethysts are perfect and only the Jaspers and Carnelians from Beta are off-colored (defective). On top of that, Jasper came from the Beta Kindergarten, the clearly rushed and inferior one. Earthlings, by which I mean any gems made on Earth, are looked down upon for their origin alone.

Origins: Jasper is from Earth, a terrible planet, decimated by the Diamonds (according to them at least) that brought nothing good to Gemkind and eventually took away Pink Diamond. So let's look at why Jasper thinks this way. Those who don't like her often point to her strict belief in Homeworld's ideology and cruelty towards Amethyst as negatives. This is something I wrote a while back about Jasper's character:
